Nationals Feedback

I wanted to provide some feedback on some of the problems my team and I experienced at the National tournament in Charleston. The 1st problem is that all of our handicaps were screwed up. We went with 5 players and they managed to screw up 4 of our handicaps. I have been a 7 for years and was made a 6 . Another player on my team has been a 6 and was made a 5. We also have a player who has been a 4 and was made a 3. Then we had a player who has been playing as a 3 and they bumped him to a 7. That particular player played in this years Valley Forge event and was never flagged as a 3. Our league operator went up to speak to the league about this and was told that those are the numbers and there is nothing they can do to change it. Believe me I was happy to play myself at a 6 and my other player as a 5, but we had issues with our new 3. He has played as a 4 several times in nationals and valley forge and probably has a losing record overall. He is a smart player and happened to be playing well this week. He ended up getting disqualified after our team had won a match to get into the final 8. The team were playing against didn't even complain about him and they still DQ'd him. We didn't find this out until almost 2 hours later when our team returned to play what we thought would be our next round. They made us forfeit the match he played and go back and play a 5th match which we ended up losing. When I asked why he was DQ'd they said that he had shot 7 speed in a previous match. Let me explain this match to you. My 3 was playing a 4 from the other team. The 4 breaks and runs down to his last ball and misses and leaves the remaining ball frozen to the middle of the back rail. My 3 makes 4 balls and then after a timeout by me plays a safe. The 4 kicks at his last ball, misses it and accidently knocks the 8 ball in. My 3 is now up 1-0 and is on the hill. My 3 then breaks the balls really well and pockets 1 ball. He then makes 4 consecutive shots that anyone in the tournament room could make. On his 5th shot he pockets the ball but follows the cue ball in behind it, giving ball in hand to his opponent. On the very 1st shot the 4 pockets his ball with ball in hand but scratches. My 3, with ball in hand, makes his remaining 3 balls and the 8 ball to win the match. His numbers turn out to be 12 completions, 0 misses, 1 defensive shot, and 2 timeouts used. I know the numbers look like he is a sandbagger, but none of the shots he made were difficult at all and I was able to coach him thru the racks. This is an instance where the numbers in a match do not tell the whole story. I wish there was a way that the numbers weren't the only way to define a match.

The major issue this comes back to is the handicaps. Why on our Wednsday night league can our numbers be so different than what they are at nationals. I've looked on poolnet and the numbers for our regular league are what they have always been. Why do we play all year to get this trip and then are forced to play at numbers we are not used to. I know the response will be that if you believe you have players ranked lower than they should it your responsibility to have them raised. The problem with that is we would not have been able to field a team if we did that. The other problem with that is, if they are going to turn my 3 into a 7 why should I voluntarily move my own rankings up?

I would love an explanation as to how these rankings were figured.

Forum: NATIONALS TEAM & SINGLES

I must say, this one seemed to be the best one yet. The cook to order breakfast and managers receptions each night were above and beyond. Ive stayed at many Embassy Suites and have never had an open bar with all of the food choices they had.

Having open tables for all of the tournaments was also a great and unique experience for all.

face="Arial">
I would like everyone to consider a 10 AM start time Day 1. Pool players in general are night people. For those of us on the west coast, we were starting to play pool at 5 AM, as we didnt have time to acclimate to the time change.

We also had another suggestion from our players to disallow the use of the burn out strategy. We had many long discussions with a team that had the bad experience. The biggest beef was that the player who got burned out never got to play. Of course, we fully explained what they did wrong by putting up their best player in the first place, but we definitely understand their point of view. A couple of suggestions were to do away with the strategy all together and make a team who is short players forfeit their last match or use team survival rather than burn out.

I would love to hear what other players think about these ideas.

Thanks again for a great time!
Cindy
keeping stats

Just a suggestion on keeping stats to prevent sandbagging, until you keep score rack by rack you will never know how good somebody is. Case in point, i played a so called 5 he ran 2 racks, then played and missed shots my dead mother could have made, oh yea and left me for the most part 2 rail kicks, in rack 3 until numbers were "right",. Now i know what you are going to say mark it as defense, this will only cause hard feelings and i seriously want to live and not make things worse.
You see under the present system if you have enough misses per match that's all that matters it accounts not for number of balls run in each rack in succession either which is another story.

Forum: TAP GENERAL RULES

first ball made

first ball made after the break, player makes the ball and scratches, i know the rule is he gets that ball either hi or low whichever he made.
the comment is, how can you reward somebody for doing something wrong?
this is olny in TAP nowhere else can you do this!!
i was told it was a complete, get over this complete bullxxxx, it's not complet unless you, now read my lips, CONTINUE, get it, complete your shot and you CONTINUE. now is this so hard to figure out. and ok for you real dense people the ball made is freakin DEAD. this is a simple, simple mistake you made in the rules get over you arrogance, admit it's a mistake and go on, it's no big deal, in order to grow as an organization you need to fix mistakes, i know you think this is just a small one, however it happened 2 times to me at nationals. please understand i like this league but if i am going to get new members and good players you just can't have rules like this that just are for lack of a better word stupid.

Forum: TAP GENERAL RULES

hello all
just got my first good sleep after getting back and still fresh in my mind is the pay table thing.
I don't mind paying, IF i am not trying to get loose for a match.
I came down tried to hit a few balls on an open table away from any match going on and was told the owner of the tables will not allow it.
So if you think the pay tables is the way to go, if you have enough members and players and don't care if people stop coming, if you really need the money that bad, if you think diamond tables are the olny tables, just keep it up.
you would have to had about 25 more tables to have enough so i could have got on one. and with the way people shoot it could have costed me 10.00 dollars before i got a shot.
i for the life of me can't begin to understand what anybody was thinking when they did that.
if you are going to make people pay to practice for a match then you need to have tables seperate some for the money people and some for those getting ready for a match.

Forum: NATIONALS TEAM & SINGLES

Good luck to all of our members at nationals

TAP corp. would like to wish everyone good luck, good rolls and a great time next week at our nationals in Charleston, South Carolina.
Unlike TAP's Rally in the Valley, where teams are built especially for this event, your team has played together for a year, sharing many nights of league play and the ups and downs of weekly competition. You have made it thru each session and then division and national playoffs to earn your hard fought spot at our nationals. You are the best of the best and our hats our off to all of you. Savor the moment and enjoy your stay at nationals because you never know when you will get a second chance.

Here is wishing everyone a safe trip to and from the event and making this our best nationals ever!!

See you all there!

Forum: NATIONALS TEAM & SINGLES
