This question has to do with the marking the 9-ball rule.  Understanding that it is not considered coaching for any member of the team to remind a player to mark his/her pocket the question is this:

Now if there are no other balls other than the 9-ball no problem with team reminding player to mark pocket, however assuming there are multiple balls on the table and a team member tells shooter to mark pocket, would it be considered coaching and be a charged time-out or foul if player has no remaining time-outs.

Granted this would not likely be an issue with higher skilled players as they will usually see the combination possibility, however with a lower skilled player this could very well be used to tell player that, that is the shot they need to shoot or at least attempt the combination.

I would say it is coaching unless the player called the nine instead of marking it, if they hadn't called  it you would be suggesting a different shot to them.

I have forwarded this to our National Director.

This scenario will be reviewed and addressed via an addendum to the rules, as necessary.

For now, IN 9 BALL, advising the players to mark the 9 - It is not addressed in the rules at all.

So, if a team wants to tell their player to call the nine, they need to use a time out to do so, through the coach to advise the player.

This seems the most fair thing for all to do, until it can be reviewed and addressed.
